Google names new Android version (6.0) Marshmallow, and it's version 6.0. This version, which has been called "M" until now, had its name unveiled today. The next version of Google's mobile operating system will be called Android Marshmallow and it's version 6.0.

As you may or may not know, nearly every version of Android has been named after a candy or dessert in alphabetical order, starting with the letter "c." (The first two versions were just called Alpha and Beta.). Some of the past OS names include Cupcake, Donute, Froyo and even KitKat-which it tried to promote using the candy brand. The current Android OS version is called Lollipop.

Google unveiled the name by erecting an Android statue holding a jumbo-sized marshmallow in front of the Google Campus in Mountain View, California. Android Marshmallow will roll out to the public this fall, but Google has yet to set an exact release date.

Along with finalizing the name, Google has also released the finished version of its Android 6.0 SDK and a third (and final) Marshmallow software preview that can be loaded on Nexus devices.
